SUMMARY:Gryphon Trio with the Nordic Voices and mezzo-soprano Marion Newman
DESCRIPTION:The one-and-only Gryphon Trio\, returning guests and long-time friends of the Tuckamore Festival\, will cap off our special Come Home Year Celebration Weekend. They’ll bring the electrifying combination of piano trio\, a cappella ensemble Nordic Voices\, and the vivacious mezzo-soprano Marion Newman to First Light Centre for Performance and Creativity. A free event\, but donations at the door are appreciated! \nOn the program: \nWith origins in ancient Kyiv\, Ukrainian dumky epic ballads served as the inspiration for Dvorak’s rhapsodic Dumky trio. Powerful messages captured and transported in music help us understand the complexity of our times and provide a means by which to convey comfort\, joy\, sorrow and wisdom to those that follow in our steps. \nWeaving in between movements of Dvorak’s Dumky Trio\, mezzo soprano Marion Newman\, Norway’s Nordic Voices and the Gryphon Trio present a tapestry of vocal and instrumental music including Omaa Biindig  by Andrew Balfour\, Solbøn by Lasse Thoresen\, Vertical Memory Synthesis by Eliot Britton\, Rückert-Lieder by Mahler and Carlo Gesualdo’s stunning Renaissance masterwork O vos Omnes.   \n  \n2022 is the year to celebrate Coming Home! \nJoin the Tuckamore Festival for a pre-festival celebration full of music and more – three days of exciting performances\, workshops\, and talks\, held at various locations in charming St. John’s. All ages welcome\, and all events are free! \n \nThe Tuckamore Celebration Weekend was made possible through the support of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador
