SUMMARY:Opening Night: Taking on Water
DESCRIPTION:We are kicking off the 2023 Tuckamore Festival with the premiere of a brand new work\, Taking on Water\, featuring actors Robert Chafe and Louise Moyes\, alongside Tuckamore Festival Artistic Directors Nancy Dahn and Timothy Steeves. In the fall of 2021 playwright Robert Chafe set out on an interview tour of eastern Newfoundland\, asking residents of coastal communities why they live where they live\, and how they might see their future. The response revealed tales of unprecedented challenge\, boundless optimism\, and some things stranger than fiction. Taking on Water marries the music of Randolph Peters as played by Duo Concertante with five original magic realism stories by Chafe\, that offer a new way to think about the love\, risk\, and resilience of living on the edge of a changing ocean. \nFollowed by a post-concert artist chat moderated by Annie Corrigan. \nTaking on Water is presented in collaboration with the Future Ocean and Coastal Infrastructures project. Research funding was provided by the Ocean Frontier Institute\, through an award from the Canada First Research Excellence Fund. \n\n
