Immerse yourself in an exceptional learning opportunity…
Since 2001, the Young Artist Program has offered an opportunity for musicians to immerse themselves in chamber music and solo repertoire with an intensive two-week program that offers mentorship and chamber music coachings from faculty and guest artists, as well as private lessons, workshops, and master classes at Memorial University’s School of Music.
The 2021 Young Artist program will be offered in compliance with public health directives specific to the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. We are considering two possible scenarios for 2021: either delivered online, or, a fully in-person program delivered to a limited number of participants. A final decision will be made at the beginning of April. At that time, successful applicants will be informed by email and will receive an invoice including tuition, accommodation and meal costs, if applicable.
No matter the scenario, the festival is committed to giving all participants the highest quality chamber music experience in 2021!
Who should apply?
Gifted, hard-working pianists and string players aged 16 or older who are passionate about performing solo and chamber music.
Application packages should include:
- 2021 online application form
- a letter of recommendation from a teacher or music professional (optional for returning participants only)
- a one-page CV or resumé, outlining your musical accomplishments to date
- current audio/video recording with two contrasting works
- $30 CAD non-refundable application fee
Please note the application deadline has passed. Late applications may be accepted pending availability. Contact the festival for more information.
Fees and Scholarships
Tuition: $1,100 (CAD), Room and Board: $900 (CAD)
One successful applicant will receive a full tuition scholarship, awarded on the basis of merit, travel requirements, and demonstrated need. Almost every other participant receives a half tuition scholarship. Participants are accepted based on artistic merit and availability of instrument openings. Groups are formed and ensemble repertoire is selected prior to the festival by the Artistic Directors.
